This is what customers from around the world say:
Feels comfy, sleeves perfect length, body could be an inch or two longer in the hem - I'm XL size, 6' 2'' (188cm) & 14.5stones (92kg). The fleece came yesterday (start of September UK), where coincidentally it was the first truly Autumnal day with a blustery wind. Perfect opportunity to try it out. The first thing I noticed was how billowy the jacket is around the waist/mid bottom. Sleeves, chest and neck perfect, but the hem is far too loose and lets the wind in.
I searched for a cinch cord but nothing there. It lets the wind in and defeats the idea of a warm jacket/fleece. What is the point of the outer being windproof if you can't seal the hem? It's like pitching a tent in the wind without using guy ropes/cords. If you're larger around the waist, c. 40'' (102cm)+ it'll be fine, but for a taller, 36'' (91.4cm) waist, male it's too loose or needs a cinch cord. (By around 4'' (10cm))
If you plan on buying it just for its looks, you'll be onto a winner, but for practicality it's no use as a fleece to keep you warm when windy if you're of the taller, leaner frame type.
And for those suggesting I need to go down a size, I have 2 x R2s, a Torrentshell and several tops, all XL, so that isn't a solution. A regular L size pinches the pits and the sleeves are too short. Even at a discounted price, these fleeces are expensive, so you expect the finishing details like a cinch cord.
Excellent service by Alpinetrek at keeping you informed of the delivery and service. 10 out of 10 here.
Finishing of the jacket is as expected of Patagonia. No loose, annoying threads. Obvious good quality. It's just the design of the human shape it's modelled on that is lacking. Do square, boxy XL humans of the ideal* shape exist? It feels like it's been scaled up from a medium-sized person, who doesn't understand human geometry. For want of a nail, a kingdom was lost. Or in this case, a cinch cord. Manufacturing cost increase <0.5%. So near yet so far.
