Daisy chains and belay slings for mountaineers and climbers

Daisy chains and belay slings

For belaying and self-belaying, daisy chains and belay slings take on a variety of tasks in the climbing centre, on via ferratas, in multi-pitch routes and in ice climbing. With the daisy chain, individual loops are sewn into a tape sling, which support climbers during technical climbing and are able to hold a person's body weight in the individual loops.

This makes Daisy chains from Black Diamond or Climbing Technology super suitable for multi-pitch routes, big wall climbing and alpine climbing. Daisy chains are usually made of Dyneema or nylon and are available in different lengths and widths. Common widths for a daisy chain are 11 mm, 13 mm or 16 mm. For alpine climbing, mountaineers and climbers like to rely on daisy chains with a length of about 135 cm or 140 cm.

Personal tethers and belay slings

Manufacturers of climbing hardware offer different systems for the quick and efficient construction of belay stations. Belay slings can be adjusted in length. With personal tethers, the distance to the anchor point can be conveniently regulated with a rope clamp on a dynamic climbing rope.

Alternatively, belay slings with two arms in a Y-shape also offer flexible positioning at the belay station or at other anchor points. In contrast to the usual round slings, belay slings feature anti-twist elements to prevent unwanted twisting of the carabiners for belay stations and anchor points.
