This is what other customers say:
Hello, for a backpack with a capacity of 45L, which will likely have additional items attached to the outside (such as an ice axe, poles, and a snow picket), would you recommend a 35-45L size or a 45-55L size?

Hi John,
I could not recommend the use of a rain cover on a pack with those items attached . The cover may not attach properly and you will mostly likely damage it. A rain cover on a pack when winter mountaineering is likely not to be necessary anyway.
Good point—snow won’t get inside the backpack anyway! Okay, let’s say it’s not winter, but there’s heavy rain. In that case, what size should I get if no items are attached to the backpack? Or is it still unnecessary, for an Ortovox Peak 45?
For the rest of the year when nothing is attached to the pack then the size 35-45 will be an excellent fit and will remain in place even during very wet and windy weather.
