Good for a beginner

The hire shoes at the local gym don't work for me. I find Tenaya to make the most comfortable shoes for my feet. These have a supportive arch, fit well, and have good grip. The price from Alpinetrek was spot on what I wanted to pay for my first set of climbing shoes.
