I hiked in Ireland in these shoes. The trails are boggy and often have to cross streams.
It's waterproof, breathable. Provides really good stability and support. Strongly recommend it.

01.02.2024Not a very good Product
I have used previous models of these boots for many years without issue, i have to say the latest model are uncomfortable causing both feet to ache after short distances , the sole split and a section broke away after very few hours of use , they seem like a vastly inferior product compared to others . therefore i would not recommend for commited hiking trips and will in future be looking for a different brand as these boots in my opinion are not fit for purpose.

Hi David,
Thanks for letting us know. I see no record of an order for these boots in your customer account so I can only assume that you had purchased these elsewhere. Best to contact the retailer from where you made the purchase as I'm sure they'll be able to look after you.

I find these boots as comfortable as slippers when walking on rocky terrain. Surprisingly light for such a rugged boot. Great support for the ankles and protection for the soles of the feet. I found no need to break them in as they were fine on first wear.

... but Salomon changed the design from previous generation and there is a hard plastic piece on the side of the sole now what can be uncomfortable for some - while others does not notice it at all. it wasn't good for me, however I loved the previous generation.
Very happy with my purchase, was able to install my orthotics with no issues.

Don’t mind me wrong, they are good and well build boots. This is my second pair of this line .Last pair survived nearly 6 years! (previous model).
What changed? Sizing looks a bit on the bigger side, I had to downsize compared to previous model, not big deal.Unfortunately in opposite to most of reviews I have to say the grip on wet and mud actually went down, was never good in general but this are pretty bad in my opinion .

The one boot I keep returning to. Foot always feels secure when I put them on. I like to adjust the laces on my boots on a long days hiking and the adjustable locking mechanism for the lace just means I have to this less often. The laces stay where they are supposed to be. Use these hiking in Ireland where the top of so many mountains are just boggy and wet. Always come home with dry feet.

As an update I took these on a trek to Iceland last summer. Sole split in exactly the same place as another reviewer. Had to tape the boots to get through the rest of the hike. Seems like a fault with the latest iteration of the boot. Having said that Bergfreunde were a pleasure to deal with it when I returned from the trip. Have since tried a few other boot brands but I still find these the most comfortable to wear and will probably return again to the Quest 4. Just hoping that I don’t end up with the same issue. I now carry extra tape with me on multi day hikes.
