Product description
Belay device with cam-assisted blocking - optimised for lead climbing
It makes belaying almost more fun than climbing! The Petzl Neox is a semi-automatic belay device with cam-assisted blocking that offers support in the hall and on the crag. It’s optimised for lead climbing.
Smooth rope feed and quick release
The integrated wheel in the Neox ensures that the rope runs through evenly, allowing it to be dispensed quickly. The ergonomic handle offers good control when descending and provides three times more power transmission for even better control on small rope diameters and less effort to operate the handle on large rope diameters. If the climber falls or stops, the rope tightens and the wheel locks. The cam then rotates and grips the rope to block it.
Intuitive and versatile handling
The intuitive handling of the Neox is made easier by the engraved drawings. They show you exactly where the climber's rope and your brake rope should run. The hand grips for rope deployment and belaying are the same as on other Petzl belay devices. In addition, the Neox is suitable for dynamic single ropes from 8.5 to 11 mm, giving you the flexibility to use it in different climbing situations, whether in the gym or on the rock. The advantages at a glance
- Optimised for lead climbing: cams and the integrated wheel ensure maximum control and support when belaying as well as the best possible rope feed
- Intuitive handling: engraved drawings and the same handles as all Petzl belay devices: the rope is fed into the device and one hand is always on the brake rope
- Comfortable descent and easy release of the rope using the ergonomically shaped handle
- Environmentally friendly design: all plastic components (including the handle) are made from recycled polyamide
With the Petzl Neox, you’ll be perfectly equipped for your climbing adventures. Experience the safety and comfort of this reliable partner on the wall and concentrate all your energy on the fun of climbing!

Hi Pat,
GRIGRI, GRIGRI + and NEOX are designed for belaying and lowering. These devices are not designed for self-belayed climbing; they are not effective for this use, for at least the following two reasons:
- The climber must continuously hold the brake side of the rope
Slack must be taken up for each move, because these devices do not move freely enough on the rope to enable climbing without creating slack between the device and the anchor.
Notes:
- For self-belayed climbing on a fixed rope, see the solutions presented in the Self-belaying technical tip at Petzl.com.
- For lead self-belaying, there are techniques that require modifying the device to improve rope feed. Petzl does not authorize this use. Reminder: any modification of PPE outside of Petzl facilities is prohibited.
