Product description
The next level of safety - the Pinch belay device
Are you ready for innovation on the rock? The Edelrid Pinch offers a completely new belaying experience with blocking support for use in sport climbing, on multi-pitch routes and as an abseiling device for rope access.
Attention: this is a semi-automatic device certified for use in mountaineering and climbing in accordance with EN 15151-1 and for use as an abseiling device in according to EN 12841-C.
Centred on the harness, optimised rope passage
The Pinch is attached directly to the central ring of the climbing harness. Thanks to the low, close-to-the-body position, the semi-automatic device does not need to be fixed in place when the rope is being released and the brake rope can always be gripped with all fingers. This not only gives you better control of the rope span, but also allows you to pay out 20 to 30 cm more rope at a time - for smooth clipping! The lead climber will thank you.
A run-through that relaxes
Forget about rope tangles and unwanted breaks. The linear rope runs through the frontal steel braking grooves reduces rope tangles when lowering and abseiling. In addition to the release lever, the speed can be controlled via the pressure of the brake hand, which contributes to increased brake rope control, especially when using thin, soft ropes.
Safety First with anti-panic function
The integrated anti-panic function promises greater safety, not only for beginners. Another special feature includes the second brake tier. By continuing to pull on the lowering lever, you can lower even lightweight climbing partners gently and in a controlled manner, even if the rope starts to pull in systems with high rope friction. Professionals can permanently disable the anti-panic function with a screw provided
Flexible attachment to the stand
The Pinch shows its full flexibility on multi-pitch routes. You can attach it to the stand in four different directions in 90° increments, so the safety lever is always where you need it - for unrivalled ease of use.
The advantages at a glance:
- Belay device with blocking support for versatile use in sport climbing and multi-pitch climbing
- Close-to-the-body position thanks to the direct harness integration for better brake cable control and improved operability
- With the direct harness connection, there is no risk of cross-loading the belay carabiner
- Anti-panic function for added safety by automatically blocking the machine if the drain lever is pulled back too far
- Second braking tier if the anti-panic function is activated too often due to insufficient load and/or excessive rope friction
- Front steel braking grooves allow the rope to run linearly, reducing rope tangles, increasing durability and preventing unsightly discolouration caused by rope friction on aluminium.
- Attachment to the stand in four different directions in 90° increments
- Equal operation for right and left-handed users
- Suitable for dynamic ropes from 8.5 to 10.5 mm diameter

This is what other customers say:
Feeds nicely and is great for smaller/shorter people when connected directly to the belay loop - it keeps the device closer to the body, so there is more room to move slack.

So good with skinny modern ropes. Feeds well, is close to the body, no "cling - calngs". Tube method works as well as pich and best is to combine.
Weight is not a problem.
If you use a fat old rope, maybe consider something else or other rope.

Hallo Sigi,
Erwin

A really useful all rounder for both general belay and rope access / srt and can double as work positioning rope grab. Combined with a hand ascender it can be used for climbing, self-belay and is approved for rope access in a similar fashion to the Petzl ID. Usefully, it can be attached directly to belay loop or harness without the need of fiddling with an extra carabiner or can be used with the carabiner in various orientations. Note, does require a redirecting carabiner for rope access to satisfy the EN and you should have an attachment backup to a second line and fall arrest. All in all, a pretty useful bit of kit to have on the belt and my go to for easy of use and versatility.
