Hi Konrad,
Self- inflating is the term given to this type of mattress but that is not strictly speaking the case especially when the mattress is new.
When produced the mats are tightly rolled up which means when received the internal foam will need some time to activate and then some breaths into the valve to inflate the mat. Once the mat has been used a few times you will notice you need fewer breaths to inflate.
To deflate , simply open the valve. The majority of air will be released but you wll need to roll the mat to get the rest of the air out.
Best to fold in half ,roll the mat , close the valve , unroll the matt , open the valve and roll up tightly then finally close the valve.
