Product description
The Houdini Jacket from Patagonia is a must for every endurance athlete. It delivers optimum weather protection at a low weight so that your clothes don’t slow you down when the weather is less than optimal. The hood can be adjusted with a single pull for a tighter fit without obstructing your peripheral vision. The water-repellent treatment and the jacket’s low weight make it a great back-up. The slim fit and drop tail allow for plenty of mobility and deliver enough coverage for high-intensity adventures. When the weather clears up, you can stuff the Houdini Jacket into its own chest pocket and put it in your pack. The elastic cuffs and hem seal up the jacket nicely and won’t ride up, regardless of what you’re up to.

I bought this jacket after reading and watching a bunch of reviews online. I was going to get the Arc'teryx Squamish Hoody, but decided to go with this one, as it is much more affordable.
It is very lightweight, packs incredibly small when you squeeze all the air out and does a good job protecting you in moderate winds. On colder days you will still have to wear your base and mid layers to keep warm, as this jacket is just a paper thin layer of synthetic cloth and it is designed to be used in conjunction with other layers in your system.
The material feels very very thin and porous, which makes for good breathability i guess, but nevertheless the quality is there.
The chest pocket is small, you can fit a set of keys, a few credit cards or even a big smartphone, inside. My iPhone 8 Plus fits nicely, no problem closing the zipper.
The jacket features a hood as well, and the hood has a soft brim. Be sure to put the hood over your head before you zip up, because it's a little tight at the neck if you fully zip yourself up.
All in all, a fantastic little jacket, i still have to do a proper test in the field, but i can already see it will live up to it's hype and perform flawlessly.

Honestly, I don't know what other good running and trekking jackets are (I have no comparison) - I've known Patagonia for years and I don't need to look for another. It is ultra light (weighs as much as a chocolate bar), perfectly protects against wind (also light rain), very durable, perfectly made and fitted. Ideal.

Good wind cheater that fits well for running the hills. Packs small easily while on the run - good combo of robust material but very lightweight. Just needs a wee carry strap.
