Product description
The ultimate among belay devices: the super popular Grigri
A belay device that has entered modern legend - it can only be the GriGri from Petzl. Compact, durable, practical and lightweight, it has enjoyed endless success in climbing gyms and crags since its introduction and has become the most popular and well-known semi-automatic belay device with assisted-braking. One hand may always be on the rope, but in case of a fall or a rest for the climber(s), the assisted-braking takes effect and makes the belayer's task a lot easier. However, even with Grigri, belaying requires the absolute and undivided attention of the ground crew!
What can the Grigri do?
Well, first of all, the Grigri is suitable for all dynamic single ropes with a diameter from 8.5 to 11 mm, and impresses with its excellent user-friendliness - even the installation of your rope is illustrated on the inside as well as the outside of the device! In addition, the semi-automatic belay device offers the possibility of quickly paying out rope and releasing the climber in a very smooth manner thanks to progressive control of the rope flow using the ergonomically shaped handle. Plus, the blocking support in the form of a clamping cam that grips the rope when pulled makes belaying easier in the hall and on the crag, while also providing increased levels of safety for sport climbing.
The advantages at a glance:
- Semi-automatic belay device with assisted-braking
- For all single ropes with a diameter from 8.5 to 11 mm
- Excellent user-friendliness
- Rope can be paid out quickly
- Compact, durable, practical & lightweight

I researched all the belay devices in the market and yet, Grigri is the most versatile, effective and safe to use. While it would not match an ATC while paying rope, it does compensate with its great breaking assistance mechanism.

The safest option for belaying, but quite heavy compared to a tubular belaying device.

Have been using it for a year and a half now, still no heavy signs of usage. Do use it a few times a week.
I still like an ATC guide better for sport climbing.
too heavy for alpine use
