Warm down clothing for icy temperatures

Down Clothing

High quality down from geese and ducks is used to create wonderful insulation in winter clothing and sleeping bags. This natural raw material stands out for its excellent thermal output but at the same time having a very low weight. In addition to that, down can be easily manipulated to get it down to very small packed dimensions.

The quality of this warm lining is measured by its fill power in the measuring unit cu in. The amount of down as well as the down-to-feather ratio also plays a very significant role for evaluating the down clothing. Simply put, down jackets or down vests with a high cu in value, a higher filling quantity and a high down content insulate much better and are therefore very warm.

Certified down supports animal welfare

Manufacturers of down clothing who are RDS (Responsible Down Standard) certified highly value animal welfare as well as appropriate housing and feeding of the geese and ducks used to produce the down. This means that down coats and down gloves with the certification can be worn without a second thought, and the whole supply chain is very transparent.

Insulating clothing made of down, wool and synthetic fibres

Many companies that produce high quality down clothing, like Patagonia, Canada Goose or Fjällräven not only offer winter clothing made of down, but also alternatives made of wool, synthetic fibre or PrimaLoft. Even synthetic fibres have very good insulating properties. Synthetic fibre lining is somewhat heavier compared to winter clothing with a down lining.

Whether it is warm down trousers for Arctic expeditions or stylish outdoor jackets with a down lining, hood and fur - the selection of down clothing is extensive and there is the perfect item for every taste as well as every recommended use.
