Product description

The Defy climbing shoes from Evolv are ideal for beginners and anyone who likes to spend long days on the wall. These climbing shoes impress with their high levels of comfort and great performance. The synthetic upper provides a comfortable fit, with the shoes moulding perfectly to the shape of your feet after the first wear. The upper material is also breathable and abrasion-resistant. As a result, the shoes are able to cope with tougher conditions without a problem. Meanwhile, the raised rubber coating offers extra protection against damage in the toe area.

The Trax SAS outsole provides excellent traction and offers you optimum grip on a wide variety of rock types, as well as on artificial climbing walls. Even smearing is possible here. In addition, the midsole ensures good dimensional stability and long-lasting climbing fun. Two hook-and-loop fasteners on opposite sides, together with the two heel loops, make it easy to put the shoes on and take them off again. What's more, they always fit perfectly on your feet thanks to the sophisticated speed lacing system. This makes the Defy suitable for all those who like a little comfort in their climbing shoes and are also genuine all-rounders for outdoor and indoor use.

Note: to help you find your size, Evolv has categorised the fit into three groups based on your objectives: Max Performance, Performance and Comfort.

  • Max Performance: this is your street shoe size. This fit is designed for the best possible performance, perfect for pushing your limits. You will need to break in the shoes.
  • Performance Fit: if you prefer a snug fit that is comfortable to wear from the start, add half a size to your street shoe.
  • Comfort Fit: if you prefer a comfortable fit for multi-pitch climbing or if you're a beginner, then add 1 to 1.5 sizes to your street shoe.

I regret buying my standard shoe size

I’m a total novice and these are my first climbing shoes. I bought the same as my standard shoe size, based on the advice on this site. My toes are tightly scrunched up in these shoes, and after less than a minute of climbing I was in such pain I threw them off the rock face and continued climbing barefoot. I have since been trying to stretch them using a hairdryer and brute force, but I doubt they’ll ever be comfortable. If, like me, you’re looking for a comfortable and affordable beginner’s shoe, I would go two full sizes up from your normal street shoe size.
